Sylvia Eggleston Wehr, associate dean of external
affairs, works at the intersection of strategic and financial
planning, leading efforts to secure funding from private sources
to meet the Krieger School’s priorities.
She is currently managing the school’s effort to raise
$260 million by December 31, 2008, as part of the Johns Hopkins
Knowledge for the World fundraising campaign. Campaign priorities
include the renovation of Gilman Hall and support for faculty,
graduate student fellowships, and undergraduate scholarships
(for more information on the campaign, visit the Giving section
of this site). Eggleston Wehr’s team also coordinates the
involvement of alumni and friends around the school’s mission
and strategic priorities, and she oversees the Krieger School’s
Office of Communications.
She joined the Krieger School in 2007 after serving for many
years as associate dean for external affairs at the Bloomberg
School of Public Health, where she managed development, communications
and marketing, and alumni and governmental relations. There,
she led a record-setting fundraising effort and built a widely
respected organization to support and promote Bloomberg’s
faculty, students, and alumni.
Eggleston Wehr first came to Johns Hopkins in 1985, as director
of development for what was then the School of Hygiene and Public
Health. Prior to coming to Hopkins, she was the director of development
at the University of Maryland Hospital and School of Medicine,
and was director of continuing education at Goucher College,
her undergraduate alma mater. She holds an MAS from Johns Hopkins.
Eggleston Wehr has served as president of the Junior League of
Baltimore and the Board of Planned Parenthood of Maryland, Inc.,
and has held leadership positions in other civic organizations.
She is currently a board member of the Fund for Educational Excellence,
chairs the Development Commission for the Episcopal Diocese of
Maryland, and is active with the Baltimore Women’s Giving
Circle.
