As dean of enrollment and academic services at the Homewood campus, William Conley oversees undergraduate admissions, student financial services, the Office of the Registrar, the Office of International Students and Scholars, enrollment research, the Office of Pre-Professional Advising and the career center for both the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering.
Conley’s highest priority is to integrate the best practices of student recruitment and student retention. Over the past four years his office has developed a print and electronic communications program that portrays the real Johns Hopkins: a place where academic excellence and personal growth are equally valued. In that time period, applications have increased by 55 percent. At the same time, Conley has worked with student life administrators to create programs and processes that ensure student success.
Before coming to Johns Hopkins in August 2002, Conley had been dean of undergraduate admissions since 1990 at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He has served in admissions positions at Lafayette College and Drew University. He received his master's degree in education at Harvard University in 1980 while serving as special assistant to the dean of students. He is a 1976 graduate of Colgate University.
