As senior associate dean for finance and administration, Frederick W. Puddester is responsible for the overall fiscal and administrative management of the Krieger School. This includes budget preparation, long range financial planning, and research administration. The latter encompasses grant and contract proposal preparation and post award review of grants and contracts for sponsor and university policy compliance. In addition, Puddester oversees human resources for faculty and staff within the school and physical space management.
Puddester joined the Krieger School in 2007 after serving for seven years as the university’s executive director of budget and financial planning. As the chief budget officer at Hopkins, he and his staff prepared and monitored the university’s budget of more than $3 billion and collaborated with the administration and divisional deans and directors on the annual five-year financial plan. Before coming to Hopkins, Puddester worked for 21 years in Maryland state government, including four as secretary of the Department of Budget and Management.
He holds a BA from the University of Vermont and a master’s degree in public policy from Rutgers University. Earlier this year, Gov. Martin O’Malley appointed Puddester to serve as chairman of the Maryland Stadium Authority. Puddester serves also as a member of the State Inter-Agency Committee on School Construction and as a public member of the General Assembly’s Spending Affordability Committee.
