“Bound/Unbound” : A Symposium on Contemporary Black Marriage

“BOUND/UNBOUND” March 2018 Symposium, sponsored by the Center for Africana Studies, Johns Hopkins University.

A scene from the path-breaking and highly successful symposium on contemporary black marriage, co-organized by Dr. Katrina Bell McDonald, Dr. Tera Jordan, and Dr. Jessica Marie Johnson. Among the many highlights were discussions around two new and exciting new publications: Professor McDonald’s recently released book, co-authored with Caitlin Cross-Barnet, entitled “Marriage in Black: The Pursuit of Married Life among American-born and Immigrant Blacks,” & Tera Hunter’s (Princeton) new book, “Bound in Wedlock: Slave and Free Black Marriage in the Nineteenth Century.”
