I plan to develop methods to use tracks produced by cosmic rays to improve the accuracy of the Compact Muon Solenoid silicon tracker. In particular, I am analyzing the differences between two halves of cosmic tracks as seen by the detector, a method which may be sensitive to detector misalignments that may not be as obvious from other types of validations. Tracker alignment studies are necessary to ensure the accuracy of all CMS measurements, including data used to study the properties of the Higgs boson. I will also study the data to help to analyze the Higgs boson properties. This work will be done within the CMS collaboration on the Large Hadron Collider.
