“Hopkins taught to me admire film for the rigor of its inquiry. I remember combing the Homewood campus for something worth shooting. Beauty, it seemed, would yield itself to you only if you looked hard enough. And this was precisely what the camera encouraged. Through it I discovered things to which I had never paid attention before—that “sudden light,” for instance, “that transfigures a trivial thing, a weathervane, a windmill…the dust in the barn door.” For me, like for Walter Pater, film was a way of interrogating nature.”

Daniel Schwartz, 2010

As members of our Johns Hopkins Film and Media Studies family, alumni have access to a strong network of members who work in film, television, and media across the nation and around the world. Register as an alumni member of the JHU FMS community to receive regular communications on the school’s news and events. Stay connected with a variety of Alumni resources.

If you, as alumni, are searching for or need to post a job, internship, or crew position, you can access our Life Design Lab. You may also send existing internship and full-time opportunities at your organization to the recruiting team at the Career Center. When you provide the recruiting team with contact information for the human resources representative at your organization, you help current film and media students become established in the field, and help us spread the word about our program. When establishing relationships with organizations, it is important to have alumni who advocate for Hopkins FMS students.

As JHU FMS alumni, you are entitled to benefits that include invitations to exclusive events, screenings, receptions, festivals, cocktail mixers, and more. Join our location-based groups (or start one where you are), receive special announcements, publicize your latest screening or project, and find fellow graduates or alumni as you work on location by sending your latest info to Linda DeLibero and ask to join the private Facebook group, JHU Film and Media Studies Alums.
