Victoria Huang '15: The Secret Life of Genes

The Research

The research of Victoria Huang, a public health and molecular and cellular biology double major, is focused on a method of curative gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting that affects about 1 in 3,600 male infants.

In Her Own Words

“My mentor emphasized that every project completed in the lab affects a child with DMD and his or her family. This perspective put genetics research into a larger picture for me and allowed me to realize the incredible oath every scientist must take to a much larger community.”
