Shane Ardo ’08, ’10, (MA, PhD, chemistry), assistant professor at the University of California, Irvine, was named an inaugural Moore Inventor Fellow by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. He will use the award to develop solar-powered technologies to help solve water scarcity problems.


Gregory Gangnuss ’98 (MA, environmental sciences) received a valor award from the U.S. Air Force for his courageous actions in Afghanistan in 2015. A senior environmental advisor for the Ministry of Defense, he was in his office when a helicopter carrying coalition members crashed nearby. Gangnuss ran from his office and pulled survivors from the fiery wreck.


Wesley Wood ’97 (political science) was named press secretary for Baltimore’s recently elected Mayor Catherine Pugh.
