Year of the Woman

Pamela FlahertyJohns Hopkins has its first female head of trustees in Pamela P. Flaherty, who took office July 1 as the board of trustees' 15th chair.

Flaherty, who is president and chief executive officer of Citigroup Foundation, is also the first graduate of Hopkins' Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) to lead the trustees. She has been a member of the board for 10 years and served as its chair-elect for the past year.

She succeeds Raymond A.  "Chip" Mason, the Legg Mason Inc. president and CEO who served six years as chair.

Flaherty says that as board chair, she'll focus particularly on such issues as financial aid, recruitment and retention of top faculty, diversity, and research funding.
