Green Squall, a poetry collection by Jay Hopler MA ’94, has won the 2005 Yale Series of Younger Poets Award, the oldest annual literary award in America. The book is forthcoming this spring from Yale University Press.
Michael Martone MA ’79 has two new publications: Michael Martone (Fiction Collective Two, 2005), a collection of short stories called “contributors notes” about various Michael Martones. The second, Unconventions: Attempting the Art of Craft and the Craft of Art, comes from the University of Georgia Press (2005). Martone is a professor of English and director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Alabama.
Early American Abolitionists: A Collection of Anti-Slavery Writings 1760-1820 (Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, 2005) was edited by a team of scholars and students, including then-Hopkins student Nicholas Osborne ’05. Osborne, who majored in history and mathematics, contributed a chapter titled “Letters from a Man of Colour, on a Late Bill Before the Senate of Pennsylvania (1813) [by James Forten?]” Osborne is now in the graduate program in American history at Columbia University. |
