Research Interests:

  • Neural mechanisms of object perception in touch
  • Mechanisms of selective attention and multisensory integration

The broad aim of my current research is to understand the neural mechanisms mediating 2D tactile stimulus processing in the somatosensory modality. My research efforts are devoted towards studying form (e.g. orientation and curvature) and motion perception in the tactile system. Furthermore, I investigate how selective attention modulates the activity within and across neural populations encoding the relevant features of a stimulus. More recentely, I am studying the neural mechanisms underlying integration of cutaneous sensory features and proprioceptive signals from the hand.

I employ neurophysiological techniques in awake-behaving animals and complement these studies with human psychophysical data and computational modeling.
