Elucidating the Oligomeric State of DegP in the Presence of Natural Substrate
This goal of this project is to elucidate the oligomeric state of DegP under various biologically relevant experimental conditions and to add to our knowledge of bacterial outer membrane protein biogenesis. The oligomeric state as a function of substrate concentration, temperature, and ionic strength will be studied. This work will determine the binding strength of DegP to various substrates, investigate the role oligomerization plays in the cellular response to heat shock, and determine the important of electrostatics in DegP function.
