Second Decade Society Committees
Development & Membership
The Development & Membership Committee helps to secure and allocate SDS’ financial resources in accordance with the current priorities of both SDS and the School of Arts and Sciences. The committee also develops and implements fundraising strategy for SDS members and the broader contemporary alumni community.
The committee also works to identify and cultivate future alumni leadership for the School of Arts and Sciences. The committee accomplishes this by identifying alumni who are leaders in their careers and communities and by selectively extending membership into the society.
Projects include:
- The Charles Commons Campaign (SDS has become part of the most critical community-building project on campus to date by permanently naming an SDS room in Charles Commons, the residential complex that has launched a new era of student life at Hopkins.)
- The Annual Gift Drive (SDS members’ annual support makes possible the Florence “Meg” Long Walsh Award and the SDS Summer Internships, as well as other projects that enhance student life on campus and foster student leadership.)
- The Development and Membership committee works to empower and educate alumni about the importance of philanthropy and endowment; to develop marketing for SDS and raise the organizations profile among students and young alumni, and to foster among members a common understanding of what it means to be an SDS member.
Admissions
The Admissions Committee works closely with the dean of undergraduate admissions. The committee’s goal is to support programs and strategies that will consistently bring the school an academically excellent, creative, and diverse pool of applicants. The committee’s current and upcoming activities include:
- Participating in admissions office presentations at high schools across the country
- Hosting accepted student receptions
- Interviewing student applicants through the National Alumni Schools Committee (NASC)

Members are encouraged to recruit students for internships at their companies, provide information sessions and/or tours of their places of business in conjunction with the Career Center, and teach Intersession courses at Homewood. The committee’s current and upcoming activities include:
