James McPherson '96

James is currently enrolled full-time in the MBA program at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and will graduate in 2010.  Prior to business school, James co-founded the non-profit Avalon Education Group in Montgomery County, MD, with his uncle Richard McPherson.  The group has since started and consulted on several schools and educational start up ventures in the Washington D.C. area.  At Avalon, James worked in Business Development and was the Director of Athletics and Dean of Students; in addition to a regular teaching load of math, literature, languages and history.

At Johns Hopkins, James studied Classics, played soccer and basketball, was an R.A of his beloved Hollander, and co-chaired Plant Operations for the Spring Fair, among other activities.  After graduation James studied at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland on a Fulbright Scholarship where he researched issues of leadership in Homer’s Iliad.  James is proud to have had two former students attend Johns Hopkins.  He is married and has a two year old son to whom he recites Jabberwocky every night before bed.
