Florence "Meg" Long Walsh/SDS Leadership Award

The Florence "Meg" Long Walsh/SDS Leadership Award honors a graduating senior from the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences who has shown leadership qualities at Hopkins and/or in the community, and who has raised the public profile of the university. The recipient receives $15,000 toward the completion of a project of original design to be conducted in an international venue.

The 2010 application deadline is noon on Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

2009 Walsh Award Winner

Derek Nnuro '09, a public health major and writing seminars minor.

Derek, an Azreal Fellow and Hodson Success Scholar, won a JHU Arts Grant to launch a campus arts journal.  Very involved during his time at Hopkins, Derek held several internships and was a contributing writing for the Newsletter.

Derek will use his Walsh Leadership Award to travel to Ghana, Africa.  He will research and begin drafting a novel depicting the subconscious conflict between the indigenous Akan religion and colonial Christianity, and how it plays out at the national level in the nation's struggle for economic advancement.
