I conducted research on the ambulance system in Karachi, Pakistan. I used my grant to travel to Pakistan where I spent six weeks at the Emergency Department at Aga Khan University in Karachi conducting interviews with patients, ambulance providers, and emergency room providers. The goal of my project was to determine patient perceptions of the ambulance system in Karachi with an ultimate goal of improving ambulance usage in the city. I learned from my research that there is a great lack of awareness of the role of ambulance services in third world countries, and a key factor in trying to improve these services will be to educate the masses on their importance as a medical service.
