My project aimed to examine how HIV/AIDS, in the thirty years since its arrival in the United States, is understood now by populations previously seen as high risk and those who represent emerging risk in San Francisco, New York City, and Baltimore. Using interview-based, qualitative research techniques, I attempted to discover what it means to prevent HIV and to live with HIV today in these different settings through the lenses of several widely different groups and organizations.
