The theme of the <a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/arrighi\/event\/arrighi-center-general-seminar-spring-2025-opening-session\/\">Spring 2025 seminar<\/a> is &#8220;Value, Price and Profit in the Contemporary World System&#8221;. <\/strong> It meets on Fridays from 1:30-4 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Arrighi Center&#8217;s activities include seminars, workshops, and research groups on themes such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Global inequality and development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shifts in the global distribution of wealth and power and their implications for structures and norms of global governance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Land, labor, and environmental rights and struggles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The crisis of welfare states and the rise of a politics of austerity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The degree to which we as individuals and groups can influence global social change<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, for undergraduates with an interest in these themes, the Department of Sociology offers Undergraduate students the <a href=\"https:\/\/soc.jhu.edu\/undergraduate\/global-social-change-and-development\/\">Global Social Change and Development (GSCD) Track<\/a>. Students who successfully complete the requirements for the GSCD Track will receive majors in both International Studies and Sociology.
