{"id":92,"date":"2015-02-05T17:53:45","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T21:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/behavioral-bio\/?page_id=92"},"modified":"2026-03-09T14:18:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T18:18:30","slug":"honors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/behavioralbiology\/the-major\/honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Students who meet the criteria for honors will receive a special notation in the graduation program and on their transcripts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An <strong>Honors Thesis<\/strong> approved by your faculty mentor is required to receive honors in addition to a 3.5 GPA and six credits of research. The honors thesis requires that you provide <em>significant independent contributions<\/em> to your research project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the semester prior to the semester of graduation, you must submit an <strong>Honors Application form<\/strong> which includes an abstract and must be signed by your faculty mentor no later than the final day to drop classes (approximately 1 month into the semester). More materials will be required the semester you graduate. See below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"criteria\">Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Departmental honors are conferred upon graduating seniors who meet all of the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cumulative and major GPA of at least 3.5.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Six credits of research related to Behavioral Biology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/behavioralbiology\/the-major\/honors\/honors-thesis-in-behavioral-biology\/\">Honors Thesis<\/a><\/strong> approved by the research mentor and a Behavioral Biology Faculty member.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Due Dates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The semester prior to graduation by the last day to drop classes: <a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/behavioralbiology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2024\/09\/Honors-in-Behavioral-Biology-Application-Form-fillable.pdf\">Honors Application Form<\/a>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rename with your name in the title (note: <strong>your Research Mentor must sign this<\/strong>). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Includes your thesis Title and Abstract. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email the form, thesis, and abstract to <a href=\"mailto:ktorren1@jhu.edu\" data-type=\"mailto\" data-id=\"mailto:mkelle63@jh.edu\">Kate Torrence<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The semester you graduate by the last day to add regular classes: <a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/behavioralbiology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2026\/03\/Behavioral-Biology-Honors-Worksheet-2026.xlsx\">Honors Excel Workbook<\/a>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rename with your name in the title and email to <a href=\"mailto:ktorren1@jhu.edu\">Kate Torrence<\/a><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ul><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The semester you graduate by the last day to drop classes.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A draft of your honors thesis must be emailed to the DUS (<a href=\"mailto:kbohn1@jhu.edu\">Dr. Bohn<\/a>), with your PI and <a href=\"mailto:ktorren1@jhu.edu\">Kate Torrence<\/a> cc&#8217;d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your complete thesis, approved by your PI must be submitted to the DUS by the end of the semester. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact Dr. Bohn if you have any questions<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students who meet the criteria for honors will receive a special notation in the graduation program and on their transcripts.
