The David S. Olton Program in Behavioral Biology, housed in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a full-time, open-rank teaching faculty member with a strong background in organismal biology with expertise in Behavioral Evolution, Neuroethology or Evolutionary Neuroscience.

This position will join existing tenure- and non-tenure-track faculty affiliated with the program and will contribute to the program’s educational mission through teaching and advising undergraduate students. Specific teaching assignments include an introductory course, Human Origins (organismal to human evolution), an advanced Behavioral Evolution Laboratory that employs modern comparative methodological techniques, Senior Seminar in Behavioral Biology, and two courses of the applicant’s design (one first year seminar and one upper-level course). Additional duties include mentoring the research of talented undergraduates, participating in curriculum development, and academic advising. If desired by the candidate, opportunities are available to teach during the summer to secure summer funding.

Johns Hopkins has established a non-tenure track for faculty involved primarily in education. This position will be filled at the Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Teaching Professor, or Teaching Professor level with a renewable contract, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and current rank. A Senior Lecturer appointment requires teaching with distinction for no fewer than five years at a similar university. The appointments of Associate Teaching Professor and Teaching Professor require a record of teaching experience and seniority commensurate with that of tenure-track Associate Professors and Professors. Criteria for promotion include excellence in teaching, educational publications, curriculum development, and pedagogical innovation. The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and benefits options including health and retirement plan participation. The target start date is January 2024, but we are flexible and would consider an earlier start date for candidates who apply early and are poised to transition to this position.
