We are delighted to announce that the scholar, writer and professor Cristina Demaria will visit us in October for the first CAMS’ residency of this year. We would be happy to meet you all again on this occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cristina Demaria is Professor of Semiotics at the Department of the Arts of the University of Bologna, where she teaches semiotics of conflict, gender studies and semiotics of social sciences. She has worked extensively on traumatic memories and their representation, on visual culture and documentary films, and on gender studies and post-feminism. Her latest publications include Post-Conflict Cultures. A Reader (2021), and Reading Memory Sites Through Signs: Hiding into Landscape (2023).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Demaria will present her current work: “The Double Wound of Violent Women: Media Representation and Post-Conflict Situations” with a Graduate Workshop (October 13th, 4-6 pm, Croft B32) and a Screening + Lecture (October 14th, 5:30pm, Gilman 479).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If interested into participating to the workshop, please send an e-mail to ccalabr7@jh.edu by October 6th. Materials for the workshop will be shared beforehand to the students that will have made a reservation. Please note that we will also hold a dinner on October 13th, and lunch on October 14th.
