{"id":33,"date":"2013-06-06T08:11:29","date_gmt":"2013-06-06T12:11:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/template-academic-small\/?page_id=33"},"modified":"2022-06-21T10:30:33","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T14:30:33","slug":"minor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/envs\/academics\/minor\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental Studies Minor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/e-catalogue.jhu.edu\/arts-sciences\/full-time-residential-programs\/degree-programs\/earth-planetary-science\/environmental-studies-minor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Environmental Studies minor<\/a> in the ENVS program provides an opportunity for students majoring in other fields to develop expertise in environmental and sustainability issues in a way that complements their other area(s) of study. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The minor requires at least 18 credits of coursework comprised of courses focused on environmental and sustainability topics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gateway Courses (6 credits)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>AS.270.103 Introduction to Global Environmental Change<\/li><li>AS.271.107 Introduction to Sustainability<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Electives (12 credits)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 6 of the 12 credits must be from courses at the 300-level or above. Approved electives are indicated by a Program of Study (POS) tag labeled ENVS-MINOR. Elective offerings vary from term to term and include a wide range of options from the humanities and social sciences to the natural sciences and engineering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most, but not all, of the approved electives for the minor are the same courses as those approved as electives for the majors. For a list of example electives, see the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/envs\/requirements\/courses\/\" target=\"_blank\">Courses<\/a> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Environmental Sciences Minor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that the <a href=\"https:\/\/publichealth.jhu.edu\/departments\/environmental-health-and-engineering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Environmental Health and Engineering<\/a> in the Whiting School of Engineering offers a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/e-catalogue.jhu.edu\/engineering\/full-time-residential-programs\/degree-programs\/environmental-health-engineering\/environmental-sciences-minor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environmental Sciences minor<\/a> which has significantly different requirements and is managed by that department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Environmental Studies minor in the ENVS program provides an opportunity for students majoring in other fields to develop expertise in environmental and sustainability issues in a way that complements their other area(s) of study.
