The Film and Media Studies Program at Johns Hopkins is delighted to announce a visit by I Love Dick co-creator and showrunner, Sarah Gubbins. I Love Dick, an Amazon Original Series, is the creation of Gubbins and Transparent creator Jill Soloway, and the show features Kevin Bacon and Kathryn Hahn in lead roles. It is the story of desire, obsession, and a female artist finding her voice in an art world that doesn’t always welcome what she has to say.

Gubbins will be visiting Film and Media Studies in order to give a talk on her career and the current state of television media. It will occur on Saturday, September 16th, from 7-8:30pm, in a large auditorium on campus. Location is TBA.

A Q&A will follow. She will also screen clips of I Love Dick, and speak a bit about the genesis of the project and its adaptation from the original Chris Kraus novel to the streaming media form.

Gubbins will also be doing a Master Class with our students on the afternoon of Saturday the 16th. Accepted students will engage with Gubbins in a two-hour class that will discuss what makes a good pilot, and how to craft one.

Film and Media Studies will be hosting an I Love Dick viewing party, in preparation for her visit. This will occur on Friday, October 6th at 8pm. You can also view the entire first season at home on Amazon Prime. We recommend that you watch the entire season!
