Students studying Film and Media Studies had the opportunity to attend “Hollywood Rollercoaster 101,” a series of workshops given by JHU alumna Ilene Rosenzweig on strategies to survive the exhilarating highs and heartbreaking lows of a career in the entertainment industry. Topics covered included pitching, staffing, and adaptation – and how to enjoy the ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Rosenzweig got her Writing Seminars degree from The Johns Hopkins University and began her career as a journalist in Manhattan, as a writer and editor at\u00a0The Forward<\/em>\u00a0newspaper,\u00a0Allure<\/em>\u00a0magazine and Deputy Editor of Sunday Styles at\u00a0The New York Times<\/em>. She jumped from journalist to entrepreneur with the bestselling\u00a0Swell Girl\u2019s Guides<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 co-written with her friend and fashion designer Cynthia Rowley \u2013 that spawned a line of clothing, accessories and d\u00e9cor for Target.\u00a0\u00a0When the\u00a0Swell<\/em>\u00a0books were optioned by ABC, Ilene moved to Los Angeles and began her television career. She has sold shows to NBC, CBS, HBO, TBS, MTV, Lifetime and Discovery.\u00a0\u00a0She staffed on the NBC series\u00a0Lipstick Jungle<\/em>, was Co-Executive Producer on Bravo\u2019s\u00a0Girlfriend\u2019s Guide to Divorce<\/em>, ABC\u2019s\u00a0Station 19<\/em>, and Netflix\u2019s\u00a0Firefly Lane<\/em>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
