John Mann, Senior Lecturer in Film and Media Studies, has won the 2025 Undergraduate Mentorship Award for the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. The award honors excellence in supporting, advising, guiding, and facilitating growth in undergraduates. The award is given on the basis of multiple recommendations from current and past students, as well as colleagues. It was given on Monday, April 28th, 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
An excerpt from one of his nomination letters from former and current students:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“As the head of the production track within FMS, John has,\u00a0in\u00a0many ways, been the embodiment of the theory and practice mission of JHU FMS, and many students,\u00a0including myself, benefited not only from his approach to the act of filmmaking but also from his omnivorous\u00a0intellectual and aesthetic curiosity. John’s mentees have gone on to study at Oxford University; the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (an experimental program); CalArts; and Harvard University. Being a mentee of John\u2019s is more than just a temporary position: it is an ongoing friendship, and our students have been so lucky to enjoy that friendship that travels with them throughout their lives. John is always learning and growing, and he encourages that same attitude and approach\u00a0in\u00a0our students, who have gone on to be curious and engaged thinkers after college. His mentees are notably ambitious, and they move on to other spheres than Johns Hopkins, but they never forget John: they always return to visit, to show him their work, and to continue to seek his advice.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
