Former FMS Lecturer, Matt Porterfield, was back in Baltimore this week, and he did us the honor of presenting a masterclass to students on screenwriting, producing, and directing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has written and directed four feature films:\u00a0Hamilton<\/em>\u00a0(2006),\u00a0Putty\u00a0Hill\u00a0<\/em>(2011),\u00a0I Used to Be Darker<\/em>\u00a0(2013) and\u00a0Sollers Point\u00a0<\/em>(2018). His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Harvard Film Archive and has screened at the Walker Arts Center, Anthology Film Archives, Centre Pompidou, Cinematheque Fran\u00e7aise, and film festivals such as Sundance, the Berlinale, San Sebastien, Rotterdam, BAFICI and SXSW. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2012, Matt was a featured artist in the Whitney Biennial, a Creative Capital grantee, and the recipient of a Wexner Center Artists Residency. In summer 2014, he wrote and directed his first narrative short,\u00a0Take What You Can Carry<\/em>, with a grant from the Harvard Film Study Center. It premiered in the Shorts Competition at the Berlinale in 2015 and screened at Lincoln Center\u2019s second annual Art of the Real series. The following year, he co-produced and co-wrote Gaston Solnicki\u2019s first fiction feature,\u00a0K\u00e9kszak\u00e1ll\u00fa,<\/em>in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a producer, Matt has participated in IFP\u2019s No Borders, Cinemart, FIDLab, the Berlin Coproduction Market and the Venice Production Bridge.
