The tutors are undergraduate students who have taken courses in a prior year and have done well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning Den\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Learning Den offers small group tutoring, help rooms and study spaces. Students are expected to bring questions or material to review. The CFE classes that&nbsp;Learning Den supports are&nbsp;Elements of Macroeconomics, Elements of Microeconomics, and Financial Markets &amp; Institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PILOT\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>PILOT offers group tutoring for designed for students taking introductory courses. Students are organized into small groups of no more than a dozen members who meet weekly to work through problem sets with the tutor. PILOT is offered for Elements of Macroeconomics and Elements of Microeconomics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"extra\">Student Organizations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many student organizations doing activities related to finance\/business\/entrepreneurship. Here we list the groups most focused on finance; if you&#8217;d like to be listed, please <a href=\"mailto:wrightj@jhu.edu\">send us an email<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/jhusalant.com\/\">Marshal L. Salant Investment Team<\/a> provides students with a hands-on experience managing equities in a real money portfolio.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Financial Analysts Club&nbsp;is a forum to discuss market events and macroeconomic trends, where students pitch futures contracts and host networking events.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HopkinsUREC\/\">Hopkins Undergraduate Real Estate Club<\/a> provides career development, educational events, mentorship, and networking opportunities in real estate for students at Johns Hopkins University.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Smart Woman Securities at Johns Hopkins University educates women on the principles of investment and provides the opportunity to manage a real portfolio. SWS at JHU is one of 30 chapters of the national Smart Woman Securities organization founded in 2007.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"links\">Helpful Links<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.khanacademy.org\/\">Khan Academy<\/a> &#8211; offers great introductory lessons on economics and finance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/\">Financial Times<\/a> &#8211; Johns Hopkins students have free access to the Financial Times. Just visit the webpage while connected to Hopkins wifi and create an account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/studentaffairs.jhu.edu\/careers\/\">The <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaffairs.jhu.edu\/life-design\/\">Life Design Lab<\/a>&nbsp;at Homewood is particularly useful for students who wish to pursue a profession in the field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/guides.library.jhu.edu\/bloomberg\">Sheridan Library Guide to Bloomberg Terminals<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; some CFE classes require students to collect data using Bloomberg Terminals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Economic Databases<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are endless sources of of economic data, however below are some of the most widely used in CFE courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/jhsearch.library.jhu.edu\/\">Library Databases<\/a> &#8211; easy access to Johns Hopkins database subscriptions. The <a href=\"https:\/\/databases.library.jhu.edu\/databases\/subject\/Economics\">economics<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/databases.library.jhu.edu\/databases\/subject\/Finance\">finance<\/a> pages hold the most relevance to the CFE.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/fred.stlouisfed.org\/\">FRED<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; the St. Louis Federal Reserve has an excellent array of economic data that is open to the public.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mba.tuck.dartmouth.edu\/pages\/faculty\/ken.french\/data_library.html\">Ken French Data Library<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;economic data utilized in CFE courses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tutoring Help The Office of Academic Support offers tutoring through the Learning Den, PILOT, and Study Consulting.
