This application is used by both the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering. You may disregard any engineering-related instructions. All programs require:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a completed online application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>statement of purpose<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>unofficial transcripts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2-3 letters of recommendation (depending on the program)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional <a href=\"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/programs-and-deadlines\/\">documents, requirements, or supplemental materials<\/a> specific to the program. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some programs also request <a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/apply\/exams\/\">exam scores<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Please do not submit paper copies of any materials unless specifically requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that materials (writing samples, statement of purpose, etc) should be submitted in English or must have a translation accompanying the item.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Submitting Applications to Multiple Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You must submit separate online applications if you are applying to multiple programs in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Departments do not share your admissions files with one another. GRE\/TOEFL scores only need to be submitted once, but you will have to upload unofficial transcripts to each application separately, as well as have separate letters of recommendation uploaded directly into your applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparing Your Application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You may want to prepare materials before beginning the online application. This includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/application-process\/how-to-apply\/#transcripts\">Requesting unofficial transcripts<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/application-process\/how-to-apply\/#recommendations\">Requesting email addresses for letters of recommendation<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/application-process\/how-to-apply\/#statement\">Writing a statement of purpose<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/programs\">Writing or assembling supplemental materials<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/apply\/exams\/\">Requesting completed test scores<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/application-process\/how-to-apply\/#fees\">Preparing your application fee or fee waiver<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"transcripts\">Unofficial Transcripts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All applicants are required to upload unofficial transcripts of all previous college and university study to their online application.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your transcripts are not issued in English you must submit documents in both the original language and English translation from a <a href=\"http:\/\/atanet.org\/\">professional third party service<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants should also send a list of current courses and any other courses that will be taken before beginning graduate study at Johns Hopkins that do not appear on their transcripts. Transcripts for study abroad courses are not required, provided the courses and credits are listed on the transcripts of an applicant\u2019s primary degree-granting institution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"recommendations\">Requesting Recommendations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You will add your recommenders&#8217; email addresses in your online application to request electronic letters of recommendations. Your recommender will receive instructions to submit an electronic recommendation through the system. Do not mail in letters of recommendation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"statement\">Statement of Purpose<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Every department requires a statement of purpose, but individual departments may have special requests, and all are best prepared before you start the application. Please check your prospective <a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/graduate-admissions\/programs-and-deadlines\/\">department&#8217;s website<\/a> for additional information on the length of your statement of purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M.F.A. applicants must include a two-page introduction and critique of their work in the statement of purpose. The statement should give insight into the scope and thoughtfulness of the work submitted, and a sense of the student\u2019s ability to contribute to the Writing Seminars program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fees\">Application Fee and Fee Waivers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A non-refundable fee of $75.00 is required for each application to the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Payment may be made via Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.
