This conference explores the impact of incarceration on the world of ideas, through special attention to film, history, and qualitative methods. It considers how our approaches to intellectual work have been and can be further advanced via the thought-work of those behind bars. It weighs, too, how scholarship, via prison education and other avenues, has and can continue to serve as a vehicle for emancipation from imprisonment, and possibly an instrument for prison abolition.
