And yet this year&#8217;s cohort of Interdisciplinary Humanistic Studies PhD students and yearlong advanced graduate researchers are a true testament to the range, depth, and brilliance of what grad students at JHU are doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining us as <a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/humanities-institute\/people\/graduate-students\/\">graduate research fellows<\/a> for 2023\u201324:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Nat Adams<\/strong> (Anthropology)\u2014working on cultural anthropology, environmental and racial justice, and urban studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thai-Catherine Matthews<\/strong> (English)\u2014working on &#8220;close-reading race&#8221; in medieval studies, manuscript and print culture, and contemporary pop culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vincenza Mazzeo<\/strong> (History)\u2014working on gender, race, health, biomedicine, and notions of &#8220;freedom&#8221; in late 20th-century South Africa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sumin Myung<\/strong> (Anthropology)\u2014working on human-plant relations, cross-cultural communication, and ecological &amp; environmental anthropology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chris Taylor <\/strong>(Comparative Thought &amp; Literature)\u2014working on aesthetics, the senses, media, and philosophies of technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the new IHS students for 2023\u201324 are: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tatiana Avesani<\/strong> (Classics and Italian)\u2014project: exploring the Italian Renaissance via Neo-Latin literature by posing questions of gender and identity through the lens of language<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hannah Haegeland<\/strong> (History of Science &amp; Technology and Political Science)\u2014project: recovering some of the silences in Global South nuclear histories<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Goh Rui Zhe<\/strong> (Philosophy and Psychological &amp; Brain Sciences)\u2014project: using empirical and philosophical tools to investigate the nature of silence perception<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jennifer Marks<\/strong> (Classics and Near Eastern Studies)\u2014project: considering the lived experiences and creative work of women who labored in the textile industries of the Bronze Age Aegean and Ancient Near East<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Marshall Meyer<\/strong> (Comparative Thought &amp; Literature and Modern Languages &amp; Literatures)\u2014project: reading the German idealist canon through the lens of Lacanian psychoanalysis (and vice versa)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pyar Seth<\/strong> (Anthropology and Political Science)\u2014project: an intellectual history of medical\u00a0diagnoses, categories, and descriptive terminologies with an ambiguous\/disputed pathophysiology of Black life and death<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>John Lafe Shannon <\/strong>(Near Eastern Studies and Earth &amp; Planetary Sciences)\u2014project: tracing trade networks via chlorite vessels that were carved by the peoples of Arabia and Iran during the Bronze and Iron Ages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shengshuang Wang <\/strong>(German [MLL] and Sinology)\u2014project: the influences of German literature and philosophy on Chinese modernity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Full bios and project descriptions for these amazing students is available on our <a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/humanities-institute\/people\/graduate-students\/\">Current Grad Students<\/a> page.
