Celebrating Diversity Through Music

The Peabody Youth Orchestra (PYO), under the direction of Venezuelan conductor Andrés González, is deeply committed to fostering diversity and inclusion through its programming. Each concert cycle highlights works by women and BIPOC composers, exposing students to a rich and varied repertoire while providing equal musical challenges and opportunities for growth.

This commitment takes center stage during the upcoming Extravaganza Concert on Saturday, February 8, at 4:00 p.m. in Friedberg Hall. This special performance not only celebrates the winners of the Concerto Competition but also features Miguel Farías’ masterful work, Retratos Australes a vibrant orchestral suite that reflects Farías’ deep connection to the landscapes and cultures of Latin America. The piece showcases rich textures, evocative harmonies, and rhythmic vitality, making it an engaging and dynamic experience for both performers and audiences.
