Which “approved languages” count for credit toward the minor?
Arabic, Bengali, Hausa, Malay (Bahasa Indonesia / Bahasa Malaysia), Persian (Farsi), Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu, and other languages that receive approval from the Islamic Studies DUS.
Which courses count for credit toward the minor?

Do courses taken outside JHU count?
A maximum of two courses may be taken outside Johns Hopkins. All outside courses require approval by the Islamic Studies DUS.
What grade must I get in a course for it to count?
JHU courses must be passed with a minimum grade of “C-”. Grades in courses taken outside JHU will be considered by the DUS on a case-by-case basis.
Do pass/fail (S/U) courses count?
No.
Do courses taken under covered grades count?
Yes.
