Brazil is undoubtedly one of the world’s most mesmerizing countries. Whether one is enchanted by samba rhythms, entranced by a juggernaut economy, concerned for the countless hectares of Amazon rainforest destroyed each year, uplifted by the yellow and blue uniforms of its soccer maestros, or concerned about the sprawling urban slums in the world’s most unequal industrialized society, this intersession course will interest students from all backgrounds and majors, from history and anthropology to the natural sciences. In order to gain an appreciation of Brazil cultural, historical, and geographical diversity, students will visit four distinctive cities and their surrounding regions: Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, and Manaus.
