African Musicians in the Atlantic World: Legacies of Sound and Slavery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This book connects studies on the African diaspora, music, and transatlantic and colonial American literature to examine the heritage of African and Afro-diasporic music from the early modern era. Dr. Lingold offers a comprehensive historical overview of early African music and analyzes its significant impact on the processes of enslavement and colonization in the Americas. She conducts an in-depth analysis of available documents, especially European travel narratives, to reveal the lives of African musicians, the music they created, and its importance both in Africa and among enslaved communities in the Caribbean and throughout the Americas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
