Degenerative Realism: A Discussion with Christy Wampole – Tuesday, 9/29 from 5pm to 7pm

September 29, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join noted author Christy Wampole (Assoc. Professor of French, Princeton Univ.) Tues., Sept. 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a salon-style discussion of Degenerative Realism: Novel and Nation in Twenty-First Century France (U of Chicago P, 2020). The study charts the rise to prominence of dystopian discourses of decline and terror in works by such writers as Michel Houellebecq, Frédéric Beigbeder, and Aurélien Bellanger. Dr. Wampole’s previous books include The Other Serious (2015), on the fate of irony in the new millennium, and Rootedness: The Ramifications of a Metaphor (2016), an exploration of the botanical imaginary in twentieth-century French and German fiction and theory. Salon participants should request a Zoom weblink and passcode by writing Kimberly Holton: kholton1@jhu.edu
