The award comprises:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A&nbsp;certificate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$500<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any undergraduate student completing the Spanish major&#8217;s last three-credit course<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum Major GPA 3.5<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply for the award, please submit the following documents by\u00a0<strong>March 15<\/strong>\u00a0(spring graduation), and\u00a0<strong>November 1<\/strong>\u00a0(fall graduation), to <a href=\"mailto:mll@jhu.edu\">mll@jhu.edu<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/modern-languages-literatures\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2023\/09\/Application_form_SEVERN-TEAKLE-WALLIS-AWARD.pdf\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"8540\">Application form<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unofficial copy of the student\u2019s transcript<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital copy of the Spanish Essay to be considered for the award<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h2 id=\"at-82601\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">Russell-Wood Award<\/h2><div id=\"ac-82601\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Professor Anthony J.R. Russell-Wood was an internationally distinguished expert on Brazil and the Portuguese-speaking world. He joined the history department in 1971, and at his death in 2010, was the Herbert Baxter Adams Professor of History. The Anthony J.R. Russell-Wood Undergraduate Award was established in 2013 by his wife, Mrs. Hannelore Russell-Wood, with an initial five-year gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award comprises:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A&nbsp;certificate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A&nbsp;travel allowance of $2,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Any student enrolled in the Portuguese Language Program, who has an intermediate level of competence or above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can be in any year of study, but must plan to be full-time at Johns Hopkins in the year following acceptance of their award&nbsp;(seniors are not eligible). Graduate students researching on Brazil and committed to study Portuguese are also encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The award winner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is entirely free to create his or her own&nbsp;study or research program; however, students are required to join the&nbsp;JHU programs to Brazil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must use the award within one year of receiving it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must visit the Russell-Wood collections at the UFBA (Federal University of Bahia in Salvador), the Santa Casa de Misericordia in Salvador, and the National Library in Rio de Janeiro.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply for the award, please submit the following documents by\u00a0<strong>March<\/strong> <strong>8<\/strong> (spring semester), and\u00a0<strong>September<\/strong> <strong>29<\/strong>\u00a0(fall semester), to the Portuguese Language Program Director Dr. Azeredo-Cerqueira (<a href=\"mailto:flavia_azeredo@jhu.edu\">flavia_azeredo@jhu.edu<\/a> Gilman 469A):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/krieger.jhu.edu\/modern-languages-literatures\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2023\/11\/Application_form_Russell_wood.pdf\">A completed&nbsp;application form<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One unofficial copy of the student\u2019s transcript<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 1\u20132-page&nbsp;cover letter (in Portuguese) to the Selecting Committee&nbsp;indicating:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How relevant the award is for you and for your academic development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How the award would enhance your Portuguese language skills and your knowledge of Brazilian history and&nbsp;culture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A short (2 pages)&nbsp;research project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A letter of support from a Hopkins faculty member (no graduate student\/TA letters, please) familiar with the student\u2019s academic work.&nbsp;Letters should be submitted no later than March 4 (spring semester) and October 1 (fall semester).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other aspects considered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Performance in Portuguese language and\/or culture courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student\u2019s GPA of 3.0 or higher<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Awards will be&nbsp;announced two weeks after the deadline.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Funding Opportunities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul
