Flavia Azeredo-Cerqueira holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics, with a concentration in Second Language Acquisition. Dr. Azeredo-Cerqueira is the director of the Portuguese Language Program and an Associate Teaching Professor of Portuguese in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. Before joining Johns Hopkins University, she stablished the Portuguese program at Morgan State University, Baltimore, and taught language and culture courses at American University in Washington\/DC and at the University of Maryland, College Park.<\/p>\r\n
Professor Azeredo-Cerqueira specialized in second language acquisition, language identity, the role of motivation in language learning, corrective feedback, phonetics and phonology, and the effects of cultural aspects in SLA. Her current research interests are the role of study abroad in language learning process, heritage learners, and bilingualism. Professor Azeredo-Cerqueira also conducts research in continued education and language teacher training.<\/p>\r\n
She has been an advocate for the teaching of Portuguese at North-American universities. She presented at several conferences in the USA, England, Portugal, and Brazil and has organized symposiums and educational panels at multiple venues in the United States.<\/p>\r\n
