Report From the Field: Christie

Christie Young Smith ’13 and Grace Golden ’16 are interning at the Freer and Sackler galleries this summer, continuing their work on an exhibit of Turkish Photographer Ara Güler. Christie and Grace took the Mellon-funded course Museums and Society developed in partnership with the Smithsonian this Spring 2013. Grace writes about her experience: “So far, this has meant several trips to the museum archives, meetings with curators and web designers, drafting wall text and blog posts, and lots of research! There are a ton of perks with this job—yesterday I got free food from the National Folk life Festival for the Smithsonian Staff Picnic, and I spent this morning at the Newseum looking for inspiration. Also, I’m happy to report that after a month here, I’ve finally stopped getting lost in the maze of offices!” Look for the exhibit opening in December, and for sneak previews on campus (including on this website) in the fall.
