In Spring 2016, undergraduates in Lori Finkelstein’s\u00a0Zoos\u00a0and Communities\u00a0<\/em>worked in partnership with elementary school\u00a0students enrolled in the STEM Achievement in Baltimore Elementary Schools (SABES) program to create a summer activity booklet for conservation education.<\/p>\n Zoos and Communities<\/em>\u00a0examines zoos and living collections from historical and contemporary perspectives, taking into account the potentially conflicting role of zoos as conservation organizations, educational institutions, and entertainment venues serving different communities. A central focus of the course is a museological project in partnership with elementary school students enrolled in the STEM Achievement in Baltimore Elementary Schools (SABES) program. SABES is a collaborative endeavor between Baltimore City Public Schools and JHU designed to improve educational outcomes in STEM disciplines at several Baltimore City elementary schools.<\/p>\n To learn more:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
