Founded in 1876, Hopkins was the first modern research university in the United States, emphasizing research and the advancement of knowledge for its students and the world.

Postbac students take their classes on the beautiful Homewood campus, located in the Charles Village neighborhood of Baltimore. Come for a visit, or take a virtual tour. Students benefit from the resources and expertise of the Hopkins medical campuses during their medical tutorial internships.

Postbac Life

Our goal is for all students in the postbac program to have a rewarding experience as they pursue their dream of attending medical school. Throughout the year, planned events and impromptu activities provide opportunities for students to enjoy their time at Hopkins and in Baltimore. These events also foster a sense of community. Students also have access to Johns Hopkins resources, like the Office of Academic Support, Student Health and Wellness Center, Counseling Center, and campus recreation and fitness offerings.

Many of our students engage in the Baltimore community to learn more about its needs and to be of service, and volunteer in medical clinics in the city. Others have mentored area schoolchildren, translated at hospitals, and presented science and math programming at local schools. It enriches our students’ time in Baltimore while helping to educate them about medical and non-medical issues in urban populations.

Housing

Most students live in picturesque Charles Village and can walk to classes on campus. While campus housing is not available, there are numerous off-campus apartment buildings and homes that are comfortable and affordable. Hopkins has a centralized off-campus housing office, which can assist students in locating a pleasant and convenient living arrangement.
