In early December, Special Assistant for Trauma and Telemedicine and Baltimore Corps Fellow Vijay Ramasamy provided testimony on behalf of BCHD to the Baltimore City Council in support of Council Bill 18-0296 – an ordinance that requires adult-entertainment businesses, food services facilities, hotels, licensed construction contracting services, and massage establishments to post a National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline information sign in designated areas.

Ramasamy commended the bill for increasing awareness of crucial victim’s services by using data to target venues in which trafficking occurs the most. His testimony also highlighted the importance of tackling human trafficking as a public health issue and the devastating health consequences of sex and labor trafficking for victims.
