The Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions (HCHDS) has an opening for a Research Assistant/Project Manager  to work on a community-based research study in Baltimore, MD., in collaboration with the Gaston and Porter Health Improvement Center, the American Institute of Research and the Baltimore Medical System, Inc.

Where: East Baltimore Campus & West Baltimore

Position Title: Research Assistant/ Project Manager

Schedule: Either full time or:

Monday – Friday – 20 hours per week (when school in session) Full-time in summer – 30 -35 hours per week Occasional Evenings & Saturday’s – 3 – 4 times per year

General Summary/Purpose:

Prime Time Sister Circle (PTSC) Study is an evaluation of a community-based intervention in Baltimore, MD for African – American women ages 40-75 to take control of their CVD health. It is a collaboration with the HCHDS, the Gaston Porter Health Improvement Center, the American Institutes for Research and Baltimore Medical System, Inc.

Specific Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Participate in administering and reviewing surveys at recruitment sessions in Baltimore, MD
  • Interviewing research study subjects
  • Flexibility to answer phones Monday – Friday between the hours of 8am – 8pm
  • Respond to study participants phone inquiries by clarifying information about the PTSC project intervention and research protocol
  • Answer miscellaneous questions regarding site locations and directions
  • Resolve escalating unresolved problems in a calm friendly manner
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with study participants and multi-sector partners including: Gaston and Porter Health Improvement Center,   the American Institutes for Research, and the Baltimore Medical System, Inc.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates recruitment and follow up meetings
  • Draft letters and publish updated flyers for ongoing communication with study participants
  • Participate in data collection and data entry
  • Review and analyze data
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date files and records in excel and Red Cap
  • Make recommendations to the PI & Co-PI to ensure the smooth operations of study
  • Perform other administrative duties as needed
  • Take and maintain minutes for study team meetings

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, Red Cap, and JH Dropbox
  • Data analysis skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Previous customer service work
  • Completed Institutional Review Board (IRB) human subjects training and HIPAA training
  • Experience working with and submitting study materials to IRB
  • Experience interviewing patients, focus groups or call center experience
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Experience working in a research setting
  • Event planning and management experience
  • Previous training working with low-income patients or other disadvantaged populations including minority communities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Graduate Student
