Project Description

In the Shadow of Reform: the Affordable Care Act and Rural Health

This project will explore how data and understandings of rural health is translated through the vocabulary of public health into a political/policy consciousness. Specifically, this project seeks to understand how “expert knowledge” generated by descriptive public health methods regarding rural health in Tennessee is utilized within Government bodies. The project will utilize anthropological methodology, namely participant observation, to successfully provide a depiction of how the concept of ‘rural health’ is taken through the policy process.
