Encompassing La Sagrada: An Indivisible Approach to Spaces of Experience
The La Sagrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona, Spain defies segmentation. Though it is comprised of disparate spaces of experience which serve museological, religious, artistic, monumental, and touristic functions, the structure nonetheless evokes a sentiment of indivisibility. Using ethnographic data as well as the works of allied thinkers in Philosophy and Anthropology, my research strives to understand these spatial variations as encompassed by a large and whole entity. Segmenting architecture which boldly defies segmentation would belie the essence of architect Antoni Gaudí’s magnum opus.
