The Johns Hopkins University offers the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) in conjunction with six other university partners\u2014University of Maryland Baltimore College (UMBC), Stevenson University, University of Baltimore (UB), Maryland Institute of College of Art (MICA), and University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB). The home unit is the Blue Jay Battalion. The JHU ROTC was among the first to be established by Congress in 1916 and is routinely ranked at the top of the nation’s programs. More than 3,000 students have received Army officer commissions through the program, with more than 40 attaining the rank of general officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
ROTC basic classes are open to all students\u00a0and\u00a0focuses\u00a0on developing\u00a0leadership skills<\/em>.\u00a0Army\u00a0ROTC is an elective curriculum taken along with required college classes. It is not a minor, but it gives you the tools, training, and experiences that will help you succeed in any competitive environment—\u00a0enhance your\u00a0education\u00a0and development\u00a0of life-long skills with\u00a0world-class leadership training<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because Army ROTC is an elective, you can\u00a0participate\u00a0as a First Year and Sophomore student without any obligation to join the Army.\u00a0You can also join with as little as two years remaining as an undergraduate, or while\u00a0pursing\u00a0a graduate degree.\u00a0For those students who commit to\u00a0ROTC\u00a0their Junior and Senior years,\u00a0you will have a normal college student experience like everyone else on campus, but when you graduate, you will be commissioned as an\u00a0officer in the Army.
