The Chloe Center continues the long tradition of working groups established by the Program in Racism, Immigration, and Citizenship. Working groups allow graduate students and sometimes undergraduate students to gather together to think collectively in an interdisciplinary fashion about pressing political, theoretical, and practical topics of shared concern. A grad-undergrad working group on Anti-Racist Alliances formed in 2021 helped lead to the creation of our new major Critical Diaspora Studies.
Working groups convene meetings in person, plan events, and organize reading groups and research presentations. Refreshments and complimentary books are available to participants.
In fall 2024, two working groups were established, the Palestine Reading Groups (co-sponsored by the Program for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality) and the Critical Carceral Studies Working Group.
In addition, the Critical Diaspora Studies undergraduate working group, which grew out of the Anti-Racist Alliances group, continues to meet regularly and plan events.
If you are a JHU student interested in joining or forming a working group/reading group that pertains to the themes of the Chloe Center for the Critical Study of Racism, Immigration, and Colonialism, please reach out.
