The Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity at Johns Hopkins University is now accepting submissions for the sixth annual Richard Macksey National Undergraduate Humanities Research Symposium. The symposium was designed to offer students across the country the chance to gather together and disseminate their humanities research on a national scale. This year’s event will be held on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus from March 20-22, 2025, and our application portal is now open.
We welcome applications from undergraduates currently enrolled at any two- or four-year college or university. Presentation topics must be drawn from humanities disciplines. Interdisciplinary projects are welcome.
Humanities disciplines include:
- Classics
- English
- History
- History of Art
- History of Science or Medicine
- Modern Languages and Literatures (French, German, Japanese, Spanish, etc.)
- Media Studies
- Philosophy
- Religious Studies
- Humanities topics within interdisciplinary studies (e.g., East Asian Studies, Africana Studies, Gender Studies, etc.)
To apply, submit an abstract of your presentation to the application portal by December 9, 2024.
The 2025 symposium will feature:
- Two full days of student presentations
- A robust national student audience
- A keynote address delivered by an outstanding humanities scholar
- Receptions and networking opportunities
- Info sessions on humanities research opportunities and graduate programs
Following the conference, presenters will also have the opportunity to work with our peer editors to revise their presentation into a journal-length publication for our journal of proceedings, the Macksey Journal.
