Dean Strobach did her doctoral work in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California Davis, where she was a University of California Provost’s Fellow. She was also a postdoctoral researcher at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis. Dean Strobach has a long history working closely with undergraduate student researchers. Prior to coming to Johns Hopkins, she directed the STEM-focused McNair program at the University of Wisconsin and before that she was with the McNair program at the University of California, Davis. Dean Strobach is a McNair alum herself and is dedicated to expanding access to high-level research among Hopkins undergraduates. She is currently the PI of the $1.9 Million dollar Mellon Foundation “Humanities for All” grant, working in partnership with Community Colleges to develop pipelines through higher education and expand undergraduate research access. She runs the related multi-year study  titled “The Humanities Collaboratory: A Novel Approach to Undergraduate Humanities Research Pedagogy,” which studies confidence and inclusivity among community college, HBCU, and other underrepresented students integrating into four-year universities. She founded the Humanities Collaboratory at Johns Hopkins University in 2018 and then in 2019 designed and launched the first national undergraduate conference in the humanities, the Macksey Symposium. She is also elected to the Executive Board of the Leadership Alliance at Brown University and the Chair of their Publications Committee.

Dr. Larracey completed her PhD in the English department at the University of Delaware. She is a writing studies and higher education scholar, interested especially in cross-campus connections, educational justice, and institutional equity. During her doctoral work, where she asked questions about the circulating and counterstories around first-year writing on a research university’s two-year branch campus, Dr. Larracey collaborated with undergraduate researchers-graduates of that two-year campus. As someone whose journey through higher education has been shaped by her own experiences as an undergraduate researcher, and her mentorship of undergraduate researchers, Dr. Larracey is excited to continue to learn with student-researchers at Hopkins as the Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Program Design and Student Mentoring.
