The Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies Program, the Spanish and Portuguese Program, and the Virginia Fox Stern Center at Johns Hopkins University invite you to the Graduate Conference “Unraveling the Archive” on April 11-12, 2025.

This conference will bring together scholars to critically engage with archives as dynamic sites of memory, power, and erasure. In an era of post-truth and misinformation, archives remain crucial tools for understanding the past and imagining new futures. Participants will explore pressing questions about archival methodologies, silences, and marginalized histories, following Walter Benjamin’s call to “brush history against the grain.”

Join us for thought-provoking discussions on the politics of archiving, the challenges of reconstructing lost narratives, and the role of scholars in reinterpreting history.
