The Singleton Center is now accepting applications for Fall 2024 Graduate Fellowships for Research in Europe. These travel grants are intended to facilitate graduate research in Europe, on topics relating broadly to Europe from Greco-Roman antiquity to the eighteenth century. The deadline for receipt of applications is noon on Monday, April 22.
Eligibility: JHU graduate students; strong preference to students who have reached ABD status.
Terms: A maximum of $7,500 granted on a competitive basis to students proposing a worthy plan of research in Europe for Summer/Fall 2024. Students who have previously received a Singleton Graduate Research Fellowship may apply in subsequent cycles provided that the total amount awarded will not exceed $7,500.
Application: Interested students should submit a 1200-word statement explaining the project and reasons to go abroad; a university transcript; a tentative budget; and a letter from the dissertation advisor. The application must have a single cover sheet containing the following information:
- Applicant name
- Home department
- Email address
- Advisor’s name
- Year of graduate study
- Date (or projected date) of reaching ABD status
- Project title
- Abstract (150 work maximum)
- Requested funding amount
- Expected travel dates
Proposals should be specific about what archives/sites/documents/objects/etc. are to be used during the period of the award and how these sources contribute to the dissertation.
Applicants are expected to obtain some funding from their home departments in support of their research as well as obtaining Singleton funding. Indication must be provided of any current or past departmental or other funding of the applicant’s research.
